I'm working with Roshan (http://www.roshan.af/web/) - the largest cellular network provider in Afghanistan that has a huge focus in contributing to the reconstruction of Afghanistan through community outreach programs and employment opportunities. It's a really cool company - they're pioneering technology that lets you pay bills and send money via your cellphone (mPaisa) and are a huge employer of females. Local salaries start at $150/month for interns and climb quickly to over $3000/month. Living costs vary but houses can be had for $100/month and food is quite cheap.
I'm a Human Resources Intern - I'm in charge of employee database verification and policy revisions - but the best part of the job is that my office is full of locals. The people here are the highlight - hilarious, friendly and welcoming. Work is cool too - but it's really crazy to work and then to come home to a compound filled with people...from work. It's a little like being a residence advisor again - where you live where you work kinda thing. The work week is Sunday - Thursday and hours are 8 till...whenever really. People here work 10+ hour days regularly! Thankfully in Canada we have the 40 hour cap - but here there's no such thing as overtime!
